On December 10, 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Since then, this declaration has inspired more than 80 international human rights treaties and declarations. Ambassador Susan Elizabeth Rice, the former US Ambassador to the United Nations (2009–2013) and President Barack Obama’s National Security Advisor (2013–2017), has joined American University as a Distinguished Visiting Research Fellow in the School of International Service (SIS).
